Definition of the vector competency of Ixodes spp. ticks for Anaplasma phagocytophilum by functional genomics and proteomics

The research detailed in this application is focused on the discovery of molecular interactions between A. phagocytophilum, an emerging tick-borne pathogen that causes human granulocytic anaplasmosis (HGA) and tick-borne fever in ruminants, and it’s tick vectors, Ixodes spp. (I. scapularis and I. ricinus). The goal of this application is to define the molecular mechanisms by which tick gene expression mediates infection, development and transmission of A. phagocytophilum. This project is funded by the Spanish National Research Program (BFU2011-23896).
