Wildlife disease surveillance

vigilancia Influenza muestras

Wildlife is characterized by its diversity, ubiquity and a certain lack of knowledge regarding the role of wildlife hosts in infection maintenance. Infections shared with wildlife are relevant for public health, animal health and conservation. SaBio-IREC is a national and international reference in this emerging field. We develop basic and applied research combining active and scanning surveillance. Examples of infections monitored by SaBio include Aujeszky´s disease virus in wild boar, brucellosis in wildlife, and emerging infections such as hepatitis E virus. This research is carried out in collaboration with several academic and institutional partners.
